Install DePro inside your office
DePro On-site runs speech to text, document embeddings and chat entirely on your own computers. Recordings and documents never leave your network.
- One computer that stays on during work hours to run the DePro Site Server. Windows, Mac or Linux, 8 GB of memory or more. It does not need a GPU.
- One or more office computers to do the processing. A computer with an NVIDIA graphics card is fastest; recent Macs also work well. The Site Server computer can be one of them.
- Python 3.8 or newer on each computer, and Ollama on each processing computer.
- Your license key from DePro (starts with
DPL-).
1. Start the Site Server
On the always-on computer, download the server and start it with your license key and your organization’s name:
curl -O https://depro-network.vercel.app/site/depro_site.py
python3 depro_site.py --license DPL-YOUR-KEY --name "Your Firm Name"
On Windows, use curl.exe and py in place of curl and python3. The first start prints three keys and saves them in keys.json in the .depro_site folder of the user’s home directory:
| Key | What it’s for |
|---|---|
dps_… API key | Your software uses it to send work |
dpm_… machine key | Office computers use it to join |
dpa_… admin key | Opens the dashboard |
It also creates the office’s own encryption certificate and prints two things you’ll need: the server’s office address, for example https://192.168.1.20:8787, and the certificate’s fingerprint. Open the address in a browser to see the dashboard. The browser warns about the certificate the first time because it was made by your server, not a public authority; that’s expected, so continue. Allow port 8787 through the computer’s firewall for your office network only, and give this computer a fixed address on your network so the others can always find it.
2. Connect the processing computers
On each computer that should do the work, install and open Ollama, then download the DePro node app from your own server and connect it. The dashboard shows this command with your address and fingerprint filled in:
curl -k -O https://192.168.1.20:8787/node/agent.py
python3 agent.py --server https://192.168.1.20:8787 --key dpm_YOUR-MACHINE-KEY \
--trust YOUR-CERTIFICATE-FINGERPRINT --name "Front desk PC"
--trust makes each computer confirm it’s talking to your server before sending or receiving anything, so no other device on the network can pose as it. Each computer appears on the dashboard within a minute and downloads the AI models it needs the first time. Speech to text sets itself up automatically.
3. Connect your software
Point your software at your Site Server instead of an outside AI service. It uses the same request formats as DePro’s cloud and OpenAI:
Base URL https://192.168.1.20:8787/v1
API key dps_YOUR-API-KEY
curl --cacert cert.pem https://192.168.1.20:8787/v1/audio/transcriptions \
-H "Authorization: Bearer dps_YOUR-API-KEY" \
-F file=@deposition.mp3 -F response_format=srt
Your software needs to trust the office certificate. Use cert.pem from the .depro_site folder, or download it from the dashboard, and either add it to the computer’s trusted certificates or point your software’s HTTPS settings at it.
Full request details are in the API docs; every endpoint works the same way on-site. On-site uploads can be up to 1 GB.
4. Keep it running
- Set the Site Server to start when the computer starts: a Login Item on Mac, Task Scheduler on Windows, or a systemd service on Linux.
- Keep the processing computers’ DePro window and Ollama open during work hours.
- Back up the
.depro_sitefolder if you want to keep results longer than 30 days.
What stays inside, and what DePro sees
Encrypted: all traffic between your computers and the Site Server uses HTTPS with your office’s own certificate.
Stays on your network: recordings, documents, prompts, transcripts and every other result. Uploaded recordings are deleted as soon as they’re transcribed, and results are removed after 30 days. Change this with --keep-days.
Sent to DePro, a few times a day: your license key and counts only: how many computers are online, jobs this month, audio hours, and the software version. This keeps your license active. If the server can’t reach DePro, it keeps working for 14 days.
Need help?
DePro can install it with you over a 30-minute screen share. Contact the person who sent you your license key.
